Ophthalmology is the branch of medicine that deals with the anatomy and the diseases related to the eye balls or vision care. An ophthalmologist is a medical and surgical specialist in eye problems.

An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor (MD) or a doctor of osteopathic medicine (DO) who specializes in eye and vision care. Ophthalmologists are trained to perform eye exams, diagnose and treat disease, prescribe medications and perform eye surgery. They also write prescriptions for eyeglasses and contact lenses. The ophthalmologists look into all kinds of eye disorders and they deal with a multitude of eye diseases and conditions.
