The procedure of childbirth is spontaneous, about 280 days after the conception, but it may be started by artificial means if the pregnancy continues post 42 weeks gestation. The average length of labor is about 14 hours for a first pregnancy and about eight hours in successive pregnancies. However, many women experience a much longer or shorter labor. If the delivered a baby is through C-section and the woman is pregnant again, she might be able to choose between attempting vaginal birth after C-section (VBAC) and scheduling a repeat C-section. VBAC for many women is an option. In fact, research on showcased that 60% to 80% of women who attempt a trial of labor after caesarean (TOLAC) have a successful vaginal delivery. VBAC is not the appropriate technique for everyone. Certain factors, such as uterine scar has a high-risk, of VBAC inappropriate. Research by International Journal of Obstetrics and gynaecology stated that woman attempt a VBAC are of younger age 24 or less than woman aged 34, 60% and 45%respectively. 64% Asian woman and 62% black woman and 49% white woman attempt VBAC.
